Bruno Fernandes edging closer to Old Trafford switch in a £60m deal | Manchester United Transfer News

Bruno Fernandes is edging closer to Old Trafford

Manchester United are close to agreeing a £60m deal with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes, according to Sky Sports. The Red Devils have been negotiating with the Portuguese side for the last couple of days, but the two clubs had differed in the valuation of the player.

That was the only constraint in the deal because Manchester United had already agreed personal terms with Fernandes earlier this week. Now, it appears that the two clubs had managed to reach a negotiation regarding the transfer fee of the player.

The Red Devils were previously reluctant to pay above their £50m valuation of the player, while Sporting insisted on receiving at least £68m for Fernandes. Manchester United are now willing to pay £43m for the player up-front, with another £17m to be included in add-ons.

The deal, when it materializes, would set the record as the second biggest for a Portuguese player leaving a club in the country to move abroad, after Joao Felix’s deal which cost Atletico Madrid £107m. Once the deal is complete, Bruno Fernandes will be earning a salary of around £120,000 per week.

It is understood that Manchester United wanted to speed up negotiations after the transfer fee was agreed and were hoping to bring the player to Old Trafford immediately. The Red Devils did not want Fernandes to appear for Friday’s game against Benfica, however, the player insisted on appearing for the game so that he could say his final goodbyes to the fans.

Sporting also echoed the Portuguese’s wishes and as such, Bruno Fernandes will only move to Old Trafford after Friday’s derby against Benfica in Lisbon. It is understood that negotiations could happen very fast after the competition of the game and there are also reports that Fernandes could even be in the stands on Sunday to watch Manchester United take on Liverpool at Anfield.
