| Bruno Fernandes has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford |
Bruno
Fernandes wants to join Manchester United this month and he has informed
Sporting Lisbon of his decision, according to the Telegraph.
However, all that depends on whether the two clubs can come to an agreement
regarding his transfer before the end of the winter transfer window.
It is
reported that representatives from Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon held
talks at United’s London office on Friday, in a bid to chalk out a deal. Ed Woodward
and Matt Judge presented Sporting president Frederico Varandas with a proposal
to consider and Fernandes is hopeful that a deal can be struck between the two
clubs.
It is believed that the Portuguese club want €80m (£68.5m)
for the midfielder, but the Red Devils consider his value to be closer to £50m.
United are also wary that their name has been previously used in the country to
create a demand for the player, so they are threading carefully right now.
United might have to agree to a cash plus player deal for Fernandes
The Red Devils were interested in the midfielder in the
summer of 2019 but balked at Sporting’s valuation of the player. The Portuguese
club reportedly wanted more than £75m for the player, who was also under the
radar of Tottenham at that time.
Spurs are no longer interested in Fernandes
right now, while Sporting have also lowered their expectations for the player.
That means that an agreement is more likely this month, but there are still a
few requirements that have to be fulfilled.
Sporting reportedly want to take a United player on loan as
a part of the deal. The name of Marcos Rojo has inadvertently arrived in the
conversation, however, the possibility of his involvement in the deal is not
clear yet. The Argentinean joined the Red Devils in 2014 and is said to be
looking for a move away from the club this month.
