| Manchester United's quest for Bruno Fernandes is under threat due to Sporting Lisbon's demands |
Manchester United’s
ongoing negotiation with Sporting Lisbon
for Bruno Fernandes is under
threat of breaking down, Sky
Sports reports. It was previously revealed that the two clubs were
still miles apart with their valuation of the Portuguese midfielder.
Sporting want £68m
for the player, an amount Manchester United are reluctant to pay. However, negotiations
were going on as the Premier League giants attempted to sweeten the deal by
including add-ons and even preparing to consider Sporting’s request of a cash
plus player deal. Marcos Rojo and Andreas Pereira were the two names doing the rounds, but no concrete agreement had been reached
However, the talks failed to advance despite United’s
genuine interest in the player. And now, the intricate details of the demands
of the Portuguese club have come to the surface, which is the main friction in
the completion of the deal. And unless Sporting budge from their requirements, Manchester United could even be tempted
to walk away from negotiations.
Sporting Lisbon increased their asking price for the player mid-negotiations

| Manchester United still remains interested in the Portuguese midfielder |
The Portuguese club had quoted a transfer fee of £39m (€45m) for the midfielder last summer when both Manchester United and Tottenham
Hotspur were interested in Fernandes. A deal never materialized and the Portuguese
midfielder stayed on at Sporting beyond the summer.
The Red Devils renewed their interest in the player this
month and entered negotiations with Sporting hoping to bring the player to Old Trafford for the same price that was
quoted in the summer. However, 2 days after the initiations of talks between
the two clubs, Sporting increased their asking price to £68m (€80m).
As a result, negotiations between the two parties are
currently on hold as the Red Devils contemplate their next move. Manchester United feel that their bid
is justified keeping in mind the performance of the player this season. Bruno Fernandes has scored 13 times
in 21 appearances for Sporting Lisbon so far.
However, Manchester
United remain interested in the player and will most likely return to the
negotiation table to resume talks next week. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the Portuguese as his primary
target this winter and would loathe missing out on him.
Sporting next play Braga
in a cup semi-final on Tuesday, but Bruno
Fernandes might have already said his goodbye to fans at the end of Friday’s
defeat to Benfica. The Portuguese
has already agreed personal terms with Manchester
United and was expected to be on the stands for United’s Sunday game
against Liverpool. However, United
fans might have to keep their shirst on a little bit longer at the moment.
