Marcus Rashford: Injury will force the England striker to miss Manchester United’s match against Liverpool at Anfield | Manchester United News

Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United's trip to Anfield

The worst fears of Manchester United fans have come true. Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, the Telegraph reports.

The Englishman aggravated a back injury after coming on from the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup in midweek. Rashford had to be substituted in the game and had to undergo tests to assess the injury.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had revealed in his Friday press conference that Rashford was a doubt for the game, but United fans had every reason to be hopeful that the Englishman would be back fit for the game. However, it now appears that United’s injury woes will continue to haunt the team.

Rashford could be sidelined for a significant time

The sight of the Englishman walking back to the tunnel in midweek had raised concerns all around, and it now seems that Rashford could be out for a significant time. The youngster has suffered from a back issue from some time but had started every game in the Premier League for United.

According to acclaimed sports journalist Henry Winter, the striker was suffering from a single stress fracture on his back before the Wolves games, but that injury was aggravated to a double stress fracture. Subsequently, Rashford could be out for 2-3 months. In addition, the Englishman also has a piece of floating bone in his ankle that will require non-intrusive surgery to remove. It is evident that the youngster has been enduring a lot of pain to play for his team for quite some time.

Rashford’s importance in this Manchester United team cannot be stressed enough. The Englishman is Solskjaer’s top scorer this season and has been leading the team forward so far in the absence of Paul Pogba

Facing a rampant Liverpool side without his talismanic striker will worry Solskjaer, however, having Rashford sidelined for a longer period could give him an even bigger problem. Manchester United still have a League cup Semi-final second leg against Manchester City this month and also face Club Brugge in the knockout stages of the Europa League next month.

With Pogba and Scott McTominay already out injured, Manchester United will be without 3 of their first team members against Liverpool and for the unforeseeable future. Will Solskjaer be able to cope with the latest setback coming his way? Only time will tell.
