Ajax
starlet Donny van de Beek has confirmed that he will not be leaving the club in January, Sky
Sports reports. Speaking to the media after Ajax’s friendly game against
Club Brugge in Qatar, the Dutchman reiterated his desire to stay at the Johan
Cruyff Arena until the end of the season. That will come as a big blow for the Red Devils, who were looking to make defensive reinforcements in the winter and had expressed interest in the Dutchman recently.
It was previously reported that
Manchester United were interesting in bringing the youngster to Old Trafford
this month. But the Red Devils are not the only club monitoring the highly-rated
Dutchman. Van de Beek has also attracted attention from Real Madrid, who also
hold the player in high regard.
Van de Beek will not move in January and could even stay at Ajax beyond the summer
The
Dutchman revealed that interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid are a
positive sign, but went on to state that those talks were of very little
importance to him at the moment.
“These reports about
Real Madrid or Man United are a good sign, but it is not important now. I've
said I will stay at Ajax and I will do so for 100 percent.”
The Dutchman has already scored 8 times in his 24
appearances for Ajax this season and would be a fantastic addition to the United
squad. Solskjaer’s interest in the player is understandable, given the lack of
quality midfielders at Old Trafford at the moment. However, it would appear
that the player has all but put an end to those talks for now.
